Vacation Policy Reminders

Print
Created on Tuesday, 03 July 2012

It's summertime and the living's easy.  Most employees take some vacation around this time of year.  Remember that paid vacation leave is not a right.  Also, remember that paid vacation leave is a form of wages since the leave accrues while the employee is working.  For example, if an employee is entitled to 3 weeks of paid vacation per year, they accrue a few hours of vacation each week they work.  Employers cannot implement, "use it or lose it policies."  For example, an Employer cannot say, "you earn two weeks of paid vacation each year, but if you do not use the vacation, you lose the vacation."  But, employers can place reasonable caps on vacation policies.  For example, an Employer can say, "you earn two weeks of paid vacation each year, but you cannot have more than three weeks of accrued vacation at anytime."  For more information on this check out:  http://www.californiaemploymentlawfirm.com/vacations-leave-and-time-off
