Heat Illness Prevention Plans: The Heat Is On

Print
Created on Thursday, 19 July 2012

Employers should have a heat illness prevention plan.  As the summer heats up, keep in mind:

  • Employers must provide access to shade and cool, fresh water.  This is especially true when the temperatures reach 95 or higher.
  • Businesses should make sure room temperatures are comfortable since it increases productivity and makes for happier employees.
  • Businesses can allow employees to relax the dress code, while still enforcing reasonable grooming and dress standards.  But, businesses must make sure they enforce policies consistently.
  • Employers can require employees provide advance notice on vacations.
